About Me :
My intellectual and professional background is in international politics, global public health, information technology, strategic communications and critical social theory.
Interest in STPP:
My interests in Science, Technology and Public Policy stemmed from my interests in creative uses of information technology for the purposes of international development and poverty alleviation. I was also interested in the role of information technologies in both organizing and transforming international development institutions. In my current professional role as Director of Research and Analysis for Direct Relief International, a humanitarian medical relief NGO with operations in over 60 countries, I make regular use of the skills and knowledge imparted through the STPP program by encouraging participatory uses of Geographic Information Systems for public health surveillance, using public health research to advocate for the interests of the global poor with major US pharmaceutical corporations, and developing new means to collect, analyze and share relevant humanitarian information.
